Library Resources
Meet the Librarian!
Tonya Malone
I am proud to serve as the librarian at East St. Louis Senior High School. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s degree in Education and Curriculum, and a Master’s degree in Library Science and Information Technology. Additionally, I am certified in Special Education K-12 and Reading K-12, which allows me to support a wide range of learners with diverse needs.
My passion lies in fostering lifelong learning and creating an inclusive, welcoming environment where students, teachers, and staff can explore knowledge and develop critical research and information literacy skills. I am dedicated to helping you navigate our rich collection of books, digital resources, and technology tools to support academic success and personal growth.
Whether you need assistance with research projects, guidance on using digital media, or support in discovering new resources, I am here to help. I look forward to partnering with you on your educational journey and making our library a vibrant hub of creativity, learning, and discovery.
Meet the Library Media Specialist!
Paul Porter
I am really happy to serve in the ESLSHS Library. I have advanced degrees in Pharmaceutical Science. I am a retired pharmacist and have worked in the states of Alabama, Missouri, Mississippi, and Texas. I have taught classes and tutored students in the study of Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Environmental Science, and Physical Science.
Going to the Library has always been an important part of my life from my elementary school days throughout the finish of my college days in Texas. Dedicated readers read more, understand more, and tend to know more. As a pharmacist, we got paid more because of what we knew. Our library is full of knowledge that is well-organized and found inside of our books, Informational Technology (IT) and digital media. Unlike Google and Social Media, reading a book can mentally take you on a trip to other places in the world, expose you to new and diverse thoughts or customs, and expand your thinking ability. The Library is always at your service and ready to help you find the book, media, or other resource(s) that can enhance your education. Stop by and see us.

How Parents & Guardians Can Support
• Set a daily reading routine of 15–30 minutes at home.
• Talk about books—ask your student what they’re reading and what they enjoy.
• Check the reading tracker weekly and make sure it is being filled out completely.
• Encourage library use at school and at home.
• Celebrate progress, not perfection!
